How to Apply False Eyelashes

How to Apply False Eyelashes

Step by step instructions for applying Posh Lash Pro Strip Lashes

It can be slightly challenging initially if you’re new to applying false eyelashes (we admit). Whether you prefer individual false eyelashes or strip lashes, they all come with their own set of challenges when it comes to application technique.

However, with the right pair of lashes, the right lash tools, the proper lash application technique, and some practice. We guarantee you can master the false strip eyelash application and be ready for any occasion that calls for a little extra lash glam.

Here’s our step-by-step instruction on the best way to apply false strip eyelashes. We’ve added some of our own tips and tricks that are real game-changers for anyone looking to perfect their false eyelash application technique.

1. Customize your lashes

A crucial step! Many standard strip lashes are designed with a long lash band to accommodate every eye shape. Posh Lash Pro's best lash practices include customizing every pair of lashes for the perfect fit to each eyelid to avoid any discomfort so you can look your best with every makeup look.

Watch our video for step-by-step instructions for the best way to size your lashes to your eyelids and trim your lashes so that each lash band fits perfectly and sits comfortably against your natural lash line.

2. Curl your natural lashes and apply your choice of mascara

If you have a natural curl to your lashes, skip this step. At PLP, we find that many individuals have a natural lash curl direction that points downwards and curling your natural lashes will ensure that your false strip lashes will sit seamlessly against your natural ones.

CEO Tip

We recommend you warm up your eyelash curler with a hairdryer before curling your lashes to get the best curl with a long-lasting hold. If you have extra stubborn lash hairs, opting for a half lash curler and applying a layer of lash primer will help hold the curl.

False strip lashes or makeup, which comes first?

So the answer to this question depends on the cosmetic look you want to achieve. If you’re going for a dramatic eye makeup look for an evening out, and eyeshadow is on your makeup vanity, then applying your eye makeup first would be the best choice. This will prevent any eye makeup residue from ruining the makeup on your complexion. However, if your goal is to achieve a natural no-makeup look, it won’t make a difference. So long as you’re applying your skincare routine and then your makeup afterwards, it will not affect the outcome of whether you apply false eyelashes before or after your makeup routine on your face.

Do I put on mascara before false eyelashes?

With mascara, we highly recommend applying mascara on your natural lashes before applying your false strip lashes to avoid mascara residue on your strip lashes. However, if your natural lashes are not cooperating despite curling your lashes and mascara, applying mascara on your strip lashes will help shape and blend your natural lashes against them to keep them in place. Be sure to clean your false strip lashes of the mascara residue after removing them to keep your strip lashes fresh and clean for your next wear.

3. Apply lash adhesive and wait

If you’re using the Posh Lash Pro 2-in-1 Eyeliner Adhesive in clear or black, apply the adhesive as you would an eyeliner and wait several seconds for the eyeliner adhesive to get tacky, so your strip lashes can adhere to your eyelid. If you’re using the PLP Black eyeliner, apply the eyeliner as thin or as thick as you would like. Once the adhesive is dried, it will no longer be sticky and act as a standard eyeliner.

No worries if you don't have the Posh Lash Pro 2-in-1 Eyeliner Adhesive! The cosmetic industry has you covered! Any lash adhesive will provide an all-day long-lasting hold for your lashes; you can opt for any standard lash glue, which will still do the job.

Lash glues, adhesives, and magnets - What's the difference?

With so many options of lash glues, adhesives, and even magnets in today’s cosmetic market, it's incredibly overwhelming to tell the difference or know which option would be best for you. Deciding which works for you is based on your personal preference, but take a look at the primary differences to determine what works for you!

To help with that decision, lash glues and adhesives are generally the same product but may vary slightly in ingredients. The main similarity is both products are wet products and dry to create a non-permanent cure to seal the bond between false eyelashes and your skin. This application method is generally straightforward and comfortable for all-day wear. However, it can be difficult to remove, especially if the glue or adhesive gets on your natural lashes.

On the other hand, magnetic lashes require magnets directly on the strip lash and a magnetic adhesive, usually in the form of eyeliner, applied to your eyelid to create an adhesive bond between magnets. Lash application and removal with magnetic lashes are generally straightforward; however, with the magnets sitting on your lash line, it may not be comfortable for long, all-day wear.

4. Apply strip lashes

This may take practice, but a trick is to keep your eyes open and tilt your chin upwards as you look down into your mirror to get a better line of vision of your eyelid. This way, you can see where you’re placing your strip lashes.

If you’re using lash glue on your strip lashes and not the PLP adhesive eyeliner, then be careful not to place your strip lashes on your lashes to avoid them pulling at your natural lashes.

Once you’ve lined up the lash band on your eyelid, use a pair of tweezers or your fingers and push the ends of the lash band into the corners of your eyes so they adhere properly to your eyelid and your natural lash line.

If you’re using the Posh Lash Pro 2-in-1 Eyeliner then be sure to draw or line the corner of your eyes with 1 or 2 extra swipes of the eyeliner to make it slightly tackier. If you’re using lash glue, make sure to dab extra glue at the ends or tips of the lash band for a stronger hold.

Getting this part right is incredibly important for your false strip lashes to stay adhered to your eyelid. If not, the corners will lift from your eyelid, and your strip lashes will start to peel away from your eye.

The best lash kit tools

False strip lash application can be challenging, but don’t fret. The cosmetic industry has created an entire sub-industry of lash tool kits and lash supplies to make sure your lash application routine is seamless and easy to do.

We recommend using strip lash tweezers with a rounded edge and tip to better grip your lashes without damaging the false strip lash. Avoid using the tweezers you use to pluck your eyebrows for lash applications because they can damage the lash fibres on the strip lash, and with their sharp tips, it's not the safest option to use around your eyelid and lash line.

Use a lash comb or spooly to gently comb your lashes to keep your natural lashes in place without tugging your strip lashes off your eyelids.

5. Gently make adjustments

On the first try, you may not get the lashes to sit correctly against your natural lash line. Before you pull them off and try again, try to use your eyeliner to tweak your lashes and hide any mistakes or uneven placements on your eyelid.

If you do need to reapply them, have a makeup remover solution close to you and some Q-Tips to make the lash removal more manageable and less harsh. Sometimes your lashes can get stuck on the glue, and removing your strip lashes can be painful.

Try our Altar of Roses Oil-Free Makeup Remover or any Micellar Water and Q-Tips to break down the bond between the strip lash band and your eyelid to gently pull the lash band off your eyelid without pulling your natural lash hairs.

Final Lash Care Tips

Good lash practices are just as important as mastering lash application, whether you're a lash lover or a newbie. At PLP, we recommend cleaning your lash tools and strip lashes after every application and every wear and avoid wearing your strip lashes for more than 12 hours. This way, you’ll keep your eyes safe, and your strip lashes fresh so you can be ready whenever the occasion calls for it. We recommend the Posh Lash Pro Lash Care Set, so you have everything you need to keep your lash care routine ready for anything.

Practice Makes Perfect! At Posh Lash Pro, we firmly believe that once you master applying false strip lashes, you can master anything. Let us know if you need any help. The team at Posh Lash Pro is here to support your cosmetic journey.
