Women Empowerment with Imaya Beauty

In honour of Women’s History Month, Posh Lash Professional Inc. has decided to select a few individuals to express their thoughts about what women empowerment means to them on our platform. We wanted to be able to share their story and show our support to women who own a business from food, to custom skincare to health supplements. 

For today's feature we are happy to feature this lovely lady. Introducing Imaya Beauty, a Toronto-based indie beauty brand that was founded by Andrea Vlahovich, a conscious beauty blogger and sustainability advocate (known as "Organic Angie" on social media). She creates 100% natural, non-toxic anti-aging skincare that is suitable for sensitive, dry and acne-prone skin. She sources all her ingredients sustainably and ethically from the Amazon Rainforest. She works with Amazonian producers and the Kokama community in Peru to support conservation and reforestation of the Amazon Rainforest. Sustainability, transparency and authenticity are her core values and these values are reflected in her brand.

What made you decide to go into business? I experienced severe burn out in my previous job. It took a huge toll on my physical and mental health. I knew I never wanted to experience this again and needed a career that would give me flexibility in my schedule. Going into business for yourself is a lot of work but you have the ability to set your own schedule.

 Who in your life inspires you? My two best friends are my biggest source of inspiration. They both changed their careers to pursue their artistic passions. It takes an immense amount of courage to follow your dreams and try to establish a career in your field of choice. Their courage gave me the strength to change my career and pursue my own entrepreneurial journey.

 What is your most significant barrier in your career? The biggest barrier for me is a mental one. When you go into business for yourself, you come face-to-face with all your insecurities and fears. You have to battle your own self-doubt and find the courage to push through during the tough times. That’s the real challenge for any entrepreneur or artist.

How can I differentiate myself? Always stay true to who you are. Don’t try to be anyone else. Just be yourself.

What does women empowerment mean to you? Women empowerment to me means helping women achieve financial freedom, independence and confidence in society. Over the past year, I’ve met some incredible female entrepreneurs. I try to support them on their journeys through knowledge sharing and collaborations.

 What did you have to sacrifice in your personal life to become where you are now? I had to give up a high-paying job and my dream home in order to pursue my dreams. It was not easy. The struggle is very real. However, in my heart, I know I made the right decision.

What is your long-term goal for your business? I hope to build a truly sustainable, waste-free skincare company and see my products in retailers around the globe.
