Women Empowerment with Moon Beings Skincare

Women Empowerment with Moon Beings Skincare

In honour of Women’s History Month, Posh Lash Professional Inc. has decided to select a few individuals to express their thoughts about what women empowerment means to them on our platform. We wanted to be able to share their story and show our support to women who own a business from food, to custom skincare to health supplements.

Introducing Melanie, creator of Moon Beings. Moon Beings provides the best quality skincare products for you and the environment too. This means high quality vegan, non toxic, cruelty free, highly effective ingredients with production methods that reduce manufacturing waste. Moon Beings carries a low footprint packaging in glass and offers a recycling program for all of their products. Bringing home five Beauty Shortlist Awards this year, her line is definitely worth checking out!

What made you go into business?

Moon Beings Skincare was cultivated out my own skincare needs. I had painful rosacea and was sensitive to so many ingredients on the market due to my autoimmune disease. I was done using steroids for my face and sought out to find scientific solutions for my skin that I could create myself. The skincare market just didn’t have what I needed and saw there was a real lack of available skincare that was simple and effective.

Who in your life inspires you?

First, GOD. Though I align with spirituality more than one religion, I do believe in a higher power and divine timing. Second, my son, with autism has re-shaped how I see and experience the world. He's a constant reminder that sometimes we don’t all perceive the word the same. He's authentically him – and he inspires me to be my authentic self as well.

What does women empowerment mean to you?

Women empowerment is about self-worth not defined by anyone other than yourself. As women we spend so much time comparing ourselves and seeing our perceived faults foremost when its just more beneficial to see the best in yourself and work towards that always. When I build upon my own talents, intuition and desires – its empowering. You have to be you – not a projection of what you think people want to see from a woman.

How can I differentiate myself?

This is an interesting question. You’re already different by nature. None of us are the same, no one. To identify what is different is to capitalize on this. Find what makes the unique you – market it, observe it, bow to it. Its you! It’s the most genuine of people who are the most successful and happy in my opinion.

How did you balance being a mother & professional? What have you sacrificed (both personally & professionally) at each stage of your career? If you are not a mother, what did you have to sacrifice in your personal life to become where you are now?

Balance is tough. I think we all have difficulty with this, being a mother or not. I will tell you that no amount of money will give you balance or happiness. I climbed the corporate ladder to only be left with a six-figure salary and a body that was exhausted, further encouraging my autoimmune disease. I sacrificed my body and mental health for professional and monetary advancement. I will never do this again. I define balance by knowing why you are doing what you’re doing at every moment. I always ask myself – what do I gain? – and what do I lose? Sometimes we’re moving too fast to stop and ask ourselves these questions. I suggest you do.

What is your long-term goal for your business? [in 5 years what are you hoping to achieve and where do hope we’ll be in 5 years?]

Its simple. To be an international skincare brand that changes the narrative. The end goal here isn’t money – it's capital to create the largest community of “charity skincare”. I want to create a space where community, consciousness and charity can merge as one. With the projected industry revenues in skincare – I feel that wealth could do a lot of good, for a lot of people.

What is your most significant barrier in your career?

My health – It’s a constant surprise of how I might feel from day to day. To add, the skincare industry isn’t easy – but I feel I have the skills and skin to break through the many barriers.

How do you balance work & life?

Technically, I place both personal and business time on my calendar – they are equally important. Spiritually, I use meditation, aromatherapy, yoga and creative expression to smooth out the rough edges of my day or week. This balance is crucial for me.

What do you say to those who want to start their own business?

Create something that is a need and is unique to anything else that exists. Use your strength and talents to guide you. It's okay to fail. Failure is only defined by how you can redefine any failures. You will have failures – it's ok. Also, learn how to pivot. In business things can change without warning but if you can find a way to pivot your business towards a new direction – you’ll make it. Enjoy the road you walk – you made it!

What else?

A lot of people say - do what you love! This to me is so overwhelming. I love a lot of things! You wont always love what you do! This is a fallacy. In essence you should enjoy your job, your company, and etc., but there will be aspects of things you’ll do that you really don’t enjoy. It's okay. It will sharpen you like a knife and give you patience in other areas of your life, career and relationships.
