Women Empowerment with Nom Nom Nom Cupcakery

Women Empowerment with Nom Nom Nom Cupcakery

In honour of Women’s History Month, Posh Lash Professional Inc. has decided to select a few individuals to express their thoughts about what women empowerment means to them on our platform. We wanted to be able to share their story and show our support to women who own a business from food, to custom skincare to health supplements.

We had the pleasure of featuring Bonnie Chu, owner of Nom Nom Nom Cupcakery. Nom Nom Nom Cupcakery is a cupcake and cake business, here in Toronto, ON who makes the perfect bite size mini cupcakes, custom cakes and mini creations.

Check out her full interview below:

  1. What made you decide to go into business?

The reason behind why Nom Nom Nom Cupcakery came to life and why I decided to go into business was due to the creativity side of me. It was an outlet for me to express the talent I had within where I wasn’t able to express myself in my full time job.

  1. Who in your life inspires you? It can be anyone or any company.

The person who inspires me is my dad. He passed away when I was at the age of 16 and he is the reason behind my passion of being in the kitchen.

  1. How did you balance being a mother and professional? What have you sacrificed (both personally and professionally) at each stage of your career? If you are not a mother, what did you have to sacrifice in your personal life to become where you are now?

Becoming a business owner wasn’t especially when all your friends keep inviting you to go out and have fun. The biggest sacrifice was my social life, losing sleep and balancing my full time job. Working a 9-5 job and then working late nights till 3-4am and sometimes even pulling off all nighters just to meet the delivery date isn’t easy.

  1. How do you balance work and life?

Balancing work and life is extremely hard, I personally don’t even know how I do it to be honest. But it consists of a lot of sticky notes and calendar reminders. Besides balancing the cake orders, I also need to set my mind to focus working for a day job. It’s quite stressful when orders ramp up. Over the last 5 years, I’ve learnt the number of orders I’m capable of handling without pulling my hair out. But it’s definitely organization that’s the key factor.

  1. Anything you want to say to those who want to start their own business.

Running a business takes a lot of time and dedication. If you plan to start a business, you need to be fully invested in it or don’t start at all. To make a business successful it takes time, cannot be rushed and your family and friends are your support system.
